VINCI Facilities has completed a £1.1m package of works to the former Pigeons Hotel and Public House; an 1890’s building that sits within the University Conservation Zone on the Romford Road, just outside Stratford Town Centre. An iconic and well known land mark, the original Pigeons Hotel and Public House can be traced back to 1776, although the current building that now stands was re-designed by the architect Henry Poston in 1898. Following the refurbishment of the ground floor area, including the installation of a new Tesco Express, VINCI Facilities commenced with the strip out of the upper floor areas together with removal of partitions, roof, windows, floors and extensive structural alterations throughout. This then allowed us to convert the newly created space into nine private 1 & 2 bed apartments, finished with numerous high quality fixtures and fittings. These included, but were not limited to, black oak kitchen units with granite worktops, integrated audio visual technology, state of the art video entry phone equipment and the latest in under-floor heating systems. In addition, the apartments come with the option of basement storage areas created in the old drinks cellars.
A temporary roof was installed over the complete building to maintain a fully water tight enclosure enabling the removal and reconstruction of the roof structure including the installation of a new mezzanine floor, dormer windows, skylights and roof coverings.
Internal fit out works comprised the installation of new sanitary ware to bathrooms and toilet facilities, new high quality kitchens, worktops and tiling, new oak flooring and carpeting throughout together with internal decorations.
Plumbing and electrical works included new service intakes, under-floor heating, new boilers, surround sound installation, door entry systems, lighting and power throughout. External works included restoration works to existing stonework and brickwork and full redecoration together with remedial work to existing below ground drainage.
Commenting on the completion, Tony Raikes, Managing Director, VINCI Facilities said,
“We are delighted to have completed the renovation works to this historic building in Stratford, close to the Olympic site. Working on historic buildings can be challenging, but VINCI Facilities has accumulated a great deal of experience working sensitively to ensure their character is preserved and that they can be useable and fit for purpose in the 21st Century.”
